On Monday, Nov.2, Tarleton State University’s band ‘The Sound & The Fury’ performed at the Alamodome in San Antonio for the UIL State Marching Band contest. Each year the UIL selects groups to perform as college/university bands, and after requesting to be considered three times previous years prior, this year ‘The Sound & The Fury’ had the opportunity to be one of them.

“This is the first time in the 90+ year history of The Sound & The Fury (and Tarleton Band Program) that we have ever performed at the UIL State Band Championship”, said Dr. Gary Westbrook, Director of Athletic Bands and Associate Director of Bands.

The Sound & The Fury performed at the contest immediately after the 3A preliminary competition took place. They presented their 2015 exhibition show “Bringin’ Da Noise, Bringin’ Da Funk”, featuring the music of Al Jarreau and Earth Wind & Fire.

“I am humbled by this opportunity”, said Westbrook. We have accomplished many firsts since I have become the director of The Sound & The Fury and this is right at the top.”, says Dr. Westbrook. “Our students work so hard and really put forth the effort to be one of the most spirited organizations on the campus of Tarleton State University. I am so happy for them and proud of them for being recognized in this way. As a director it is always a great feeling to be recognized for your band’s performance or for them to be selected for outstanding opportunities.”

“We often speak of making memories, I hope this becomes a wonderful memory for them.”
