The Tarleton State University men and women’s track teams came home from Red Raider Open having set 16 new Tarleton records over the weekend of Feb. 20.

Euphemia Edem’s new 6.03m school record in the long jump went on to win, as well as earning Edem a trip to the 2015 national championships; in addition, she earned a 2nd place finish of 12.19 for her 2nd school record of the meet.

All-American distance runner Chase Rathke managed to out-do his previous 800m time with a new Tarleton record of 1:50:77 that granted him a 3rd place finish. The Texans would also secure an 8th place 800m time courtesy of Robert Pereria, who ran his career-best time in the event.

The 200m runs by Ariel Ballard and Cameron Krc produced new school records of 25.82 (12th) and 22.55 (17th) for the athletes. Ladaria Nelson and Gilson Umunnakwe broke school records in the 400m event, with times of 58.01 and 49.35.

Nelson and Gilson Umunnakwe’s times of 58.01 and 49.35 in the 400m events marked two additional milestones in the record-book that earned respective 12th and 9th place finishes.

During the preliminary women’s 55m hurdles Hollie Boyd secured 7th place in the finals by breaking her previous school-record of 7.31 with new time of 7.27. Randall Kadlacek also broke his previous Tarleton record in the 55m event with his time of 7.70 in the prelims, and 7.73 in the finals.

For the men’s 4x400m, Umunnakwe, Krc and Marquis Thompson darted for a new Tarleton record of 3:14:91 that finished 2nd only to South Plains College (3:13:25). Prior to the 4x400m, Tye Doty and Luke Scribner achieved respective 8th and 3rd place finishes in the 3000m.

In field event segments, Kenny Odunayia and Danyelle Dillard shattered their previous school records in the shot-put with distances of 16.21m and 14.09m. Odunayia and Dillard sit at 29th and 19th in national rankings, respectively.

The women’s high jump handled by Roxanna Hernandez, Morgan McKee and Mikala Booher merited a pair of top 10 finishes. Hernandez tied for 4th clearing 1.56m while McKee and Booher managed the beneficial tie at 7th by clearing 1.56m (required additional jumps) for the Texans.

William Carlton and Sarah Vann would each set Tarleton records with clearance on heights of 4.67 (4th) and 3.52 (8th). Carlton’s 4.67 currently ranks 43rd in the nation.
