The Texans defeated West Texas A&M University at home last week.

Coach Lonn Reisman prepares the 15-2 Tarleton State University Texan basketball team (3-2 in Lone Star Conference) for their next conference test on the road to face the Eastern New Mexico State University Greyhounds (7-11,0-5 in LSC) who after 5 consecutive losses sit at the bottom of the Lone Star Conference. Despite the Greyhounds’ deplorable performance this season, the pursuit of a favorable post-season seed will undoubtedly ignite the spark that will evoke the level of tenacity exhibited Wednesday night in the Wisdom Gym as they defeated West Texas A&M University 76-71.

Reducing turnovers will be a focal point for the Texans for the remainder of the season, most notably tomorrow, following the 15 turnovers that provided the Buffs with enough opportunities to only lose by five points. On Wednesday, all Tarleton starters committed at least one turnover. To elaborate further, TaShawn Mabry’s season average of 1.9 turnovers per game spiked to an abnormal 4 against the Buffs.

An aspect Tarleton hopes to repeat is their staggering 40% success on 3-point attempts, as well as their 53% overall shooting percentage against West Texas A&M.

Eastern New Mexico’s overall shooting success falls below 40%; in addition, this poor shooting average does include facing Tarleton and Midwestern State University (two of the LSC’s top three teams) into the calculation.

The calendar remains set in January, the implied-point being that Riesman’s win ratio for this month is .720 percent. In blatant terms, the Greyhounds will be in search of a miracle Saturday as they face the 15th nationally ranked Texans.
