Mikayla Stogsdill prepares to hit a ball at the softball game against Eastern New Mexico University

The Tarleton State University softball team split four game series against Cameron with the help of Brenna Hennan and Mikayla Stogsdill.

After losing the first game 10-7 on Friday, the TexAnns came back in game two to win 3-0.

In her second straight complete game shutout Hennan conquered the Aggie batters to secure the win. Katelyn Conlee had a solo home run, while Amber Clifford added the other two runs on a 2-RBI double into the left center gap.

Both teams failed to get on the board in the first three innings, but in the fourth Clifford’s hit brought in Conlee and Stogsdill to take the 2-0 lead.

The Aggies tried for a comeback in the fifth, loading the bases with no outs, but Hennan worked her way out of the situation with a popup to the shortstop followed by two straight strikeouts.

Conlee then added the final run of the night with a homerun to left field.

Hennan pitched the complete game allowing just six hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Heading into Saturday, Tarleton won the first game of the double-header, 7-6.

In the first inning, Melody Mayse came around after a lead-off walk to score after a sacrifice fly by Conlee.

Cameron came back to tie the game in the third, but Bailee Mauldin responded with a three-run homer to deep left field to bring home Taylor Wells and Clifford to take back the lead 4-1.

The fifth inning proved to be troubling after the Aggies hit a pair of 2-RBI hits and a solo homerun, adding five runs and taking the lead, 6-4.

The TexAnns responded quickly with a single by Kelsey Latta and a walk by Randi Fentress. Melody Mayse then knocked a two-run triple into centerfield to bring home the two runners.

Stogsdill then added the winning run, with a single through the left side.

Fentress produced her 10th win of the season pitching the complete game. She allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Tarleton got nine hits in the game including Stogsdill (with two), Mayse, Welss, Clifford, Mauldin, Latta and Fentress.

The TexAnns fell in the final game of the Saturday double-header 11-3.

The TexAnns next game will be next Friday when they head to Texas Woman’s University for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Field in Denton.
