The Tarleton State University TexAnn softball team headed to Denton on Saturday where they were swept in their back-to-back games.

In the first game Katelyn Conlee started off with a homerun after two outs on Texas Woman’s University pitcher Brandie Lander. The run was the first Lander had allowed since March 29.

In the bottom of the first the Pioneers responded with two points on a passed ball, allowing one run to come in and an RBI bunt single to take the lead.

Tarleton starter Brenna Hennan held off any more scoring for the Pioneers for the next four innings, before allowing one more run in the sixth.

The TexAnns were not having any luck getting more runs. In the seventh inning Erika Menchaca started it off with a walk and Kelsey Latta followed with a single, but a fly ball and two strikeouts ended any chance of a run.

Hennan recorded the loss pitching all six innings, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk and four strikeouts.

In the second game of the day, the TexAnns took a hard 8-0 shutout.

In the top of the second, Tarleton had a lead off walk and single, and another single in the fifth, recording only three runners in the first five innings.

In the sixth inning, Tarleton had runners on second and third with two outs, but a strikeout ended the inning without any runs.

The Pioneers led by six after just two innings, and got two more in the sixth to take the sweep.

Randi Fentress recorded the loss with 5.2 innings pitched, allowing eight runs, five earned, on 13 hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Both teams will be in Stephenville on Thursday at 4 p.m. to finish out the series.
