Over the weekend, the Tarleton State University Texan Baseball team took on the West Texas A&M University Buffalos in a four game series at home. The Texans came out 1-3 in their series against the Buffs.

In the opening game of the Texans’ four game series on Friday afternoon against the Buffs, the Texans were looking to extend their two game winning streak with a win against the Buffs. The Buffs were able to score first on the Texans in the first inning, taking a 3-0 lead over the Texans. Two early runs scored by senior Garrett Kilgore and junior Noel Nevarez, followed by a run from junior Evan Robinson in the second inning, put the Texans even with the Buffs at the bottom of the second. However, the Buffs began a relentless scoring attack and the Texans were unable to recover, falling to the Buffs 4-8.

The Texans returned Saturday afternoon for their double header looking to even out the series against the Buffs. A quick run from senior Alvaro Moreno in the third inning put the Texans ahead of the Buffs, 1-0. The Buffs were able to even out the score, causing an extra six innings to be played. Unfortunately, the Texans tired out and the Buffs scored in the 15th inning to win the game and take a 2-0 lead on the series.

In the second game of Saturday’s double-header, the Texans needed to come alive in order to take charge of the series. However, critical errors committed by the Texans and only being able to hit four times compared to the Buffs’ 13 meant the Texans were shut out at home, 0-7.

In Sunday’s finale of the series, the Texans were looking to escape a sweep in the series against the Buffs and at least come out with one win. The Texans were able to take an easy 3-0 lead in the first two innings with runs from Kilgore, senior Luke Slentz and junior Kevin Meredith. Three more runs from the Texans were able to seal the game and won 6-3.

Next, the Texans travel to Texas A&M-Kingsville to take on the Javelinas in a four game series on Friday, March 28 at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and Sunday, March 30 at 1 p.m.
