The Agave – one of Stephenville’s best kept secrets

This week I took a date and paid a visit to The Agave Bar & Grill, next to City Limits. While City Limits is a well-known social hot spot frequented by popular Texas Country bands, some may not have tried an actual sit-down meal at The Agave.  It was an overwhelmingly positive experience, and I highly recommend giving this place a try for dinner or lunch.

For starters, I ordered the potato skins.  The sublime potato skins at The Agave were obviously freshly made.  I could tell from the size that they were actually from whole freshly baked potatoes, that had just been cut and filled with cheese, chives, and real bacon.  The skin was crispy but the flesh of the potatoes was fluffy and soft.

The entree I chose was the Agave Burger. It had ½ lb of beef and was perfectly grilled to order. I had my choice of many different kinds of fixings, including smoked gouda cheese, which is an uncommon offering. I went with cheddar cheese. What made this burger stand out even more was the sourdough bun that it was served on. I would rate this burger even superior to Grump’s burgers.  The hamburger came with french fries.

The service was also outstanding and very friendly. The server was courteous and solicitous, but not overbearing. Then an older man whom I assume was the owner also came by our table to ask how everything was, and we even had a brief conversation.

Last but not least, the price was very reasonable. My date and I shared the potato skins and hamburger (which was big enough for two people), along with a glass of iced tea and two schooners of Shiner Bock, all for under $20.

This place should definitely be a preferred choice when I want a menu and pricing similar to that of Chili’s, but with superior food and service.
