Jazz ensembles I & II perform Stan Kenton tribute Thursday night

The Tarleton State University Jazz Ensembles I and II will put on a tribute performance, featuring music by jazz great Stan Kenton (1911-1979). Stan Kenton was a mid-twentieth century pianist, composer and arranger who led an innovative and influential American jazz orchestra. In his last years, he was an educator. Despite his spurious, controversial personal life, Kenton’s style has remained widely popular with big bands at the high school and collegiate levels.

Under the direction of Greg Ball, the Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Bands, the ensembles will take the stage on Feb.  21 at 7:30 p.m. in the theatre of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.

Admission is $5 for adults or free with a Tarleton ID. Tickets go on sale one hour before the concert and all seating is general admission.
