TSU Choir sings, dreams and dances in a stellar performance

On Oct.18, the Tarleton State University Choirs performed, for the first time, to a full house at the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Theater. New director Dr. Troy Robertson centered the program around the theme “Sing, Dream, Dance!” The performance had exceptionally entertaining pieces ranging from slow lullaby like songs to fun and upbeat melodies.

In the “Sing” section, one song particularly stuck out. In “Let’s Imitate Her Notes Above,” sung by the Select Women’s Ensemble, the harmony between the ladies was outstanding.

The section “Dream” was very pretty and soft, except for the piece “Ain’a That Good News” sung by the Chamber Choir. This song was upbeat and energetic putting a smile on everyone’s face.

In another song “The World of Our Dreams” was a pretty jazz piece. The introduction of the oboe, played by Greg Ball, was a perfect compliment to the University singers.

The last section “Dance” was my personal favorite. “The Tarleton Color Song” was played leading everyone in the audience to stand up and hold up the signature ‘number one.’ All of the songs in the “Dance” section were cheerful and full of excitement. Percussion instruments, played by Michael Crawford and Steve Seymour, were introduced in this section as well as the cello played by Mark Frank. Each one of these additions to the songs made beautiful pieces and flattered the dancing singers.

Overall this concert was exceptionally entertaining. Walking out of the theater everyone was commenting on the artistry of the performance. The harmonizing and range in the singer’s voices was stunning and beautiful. I would absolutely recommend seeing the talent for yourself.
