Texan baseball returns this Friday UPDATE: Games moved to weekend due to inclement weather

Tarleton State University’s baseball team is scheduled to throw out the first pitch of the 2012 season on Fri., Feb. 3 against McMurry University. The Texans were also ranked No. 2 just behind Incarnate Word in the Lone Star Conference Preseason poll according to tarletonsports.com.

This year the team plans to better the 35-15 record from last season. According to tarletonsports.com, the team, “made trips to the LSC and NCAA Division II South Central Regional tournaments. It was the most successful season under head coach Bryan Conger and was, thanks in large part to a talented senior class that had 16 players wrap up their careers at Tarleton.”

Though most of the team is new, the team is ready for the season. In a quote on tarletonsports.com, head coach Bryan Conger said, “We are all excited for the beginning of the season and we look forward to this journey. We realize that every season every team is different than it was the year before and past success is only helpful if we choose to learn from it. Our goal is to simply be the best we can be at playing in the present moment one pitch at a time. Then we will take a deep breath and do it again. Everything else is irrelevant.”

The Texans opening game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Friday at Tarleton’s home stadium, the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex. After that game, their next game is on Feb. 4 and is a double header against McMurry. When that is over, the team will not return to their home field until Feb. 18 to face Mary Hardin Baylor.

UPDATE: Tarleton baseball has been moved to Saturday, Feb. 4 at 3:00 p.m., and the doubleheader has been moved to Sunday, Feb. 5 at 1:00 p.m..
