Reisman reaches 500

Tarleton Athletic Director and head Texan basketball coach Lonn Reisman celebrated a milestone in his coaching career this Saturday with his 500th victory. The win came in a blowout game against the A&M Commerce Lions.

The team wore their throwback uniforms, which featured the words “team,” “believe” and “family” instead of the player’s name.

The game began rough for the Lions as the Texans scored three points for every one that Lions managed to put up. The Texans then took the game by force and went on a rampage demolishing the Lions and keeping them away from the basket for nearly 10 minutes. With five minutes left to go in the first half the score was 34–6. The score at the end of the half was 42–17. The Lions would have to come out strong to have any chance at salvaging the game.

True to form, however, the Texans held the gap relatively even for most of the second half not letting the Lions get any closer to the commanding lead that the Texans had set early in the game. The Texans ran away with the game 78–53.

When the game ended “500 Wins” shirts were handed out and Reisman gave a speech in which he recalled his first victory; a last second shot to win the game against Mary Hardin Baylor, and thanked the fans, God, his coaches and his team.

Not only was this Reisman’s 500th victory, it was his 500th victory at Tarleton. “24 years at one university,” Reisman said. “You don’t see that much anymore in college athletics.”

With this win and the current No. 1 team losing recently, Tarleton is predicted to rise to No. 4 in the nation.

“To think about all the teams I’ve had and all that we’ve built here, it’s very special,” said Reisman.
