Texans looking to snap two-game losing streak

Last weekend, the Tarleton State University Texan football team hosted MIAA Southwest Baptist University in the 2016 home opener. The Texans lost to Southwest Baptist Bearcats 31-28 in their first home game. This Saturday, the Texans will begin Lone Star Conference play vs Angelo State University Rams.

The Texans opened the game with a 22-yard touchdown from quarterback Zed Woerner to running back Joseph Sadler, the Bearcats answered the Texans with a 12 yard run with 3:48 left in the first quarter.

With 10:30 left in the half, a 35-yard pass from Woerner to Del’Michael High resulted in another Texan touchdown, but with 8:53 left in the half the Bearcats scored on a 35-yard pass. The rest of the quarter was scoreless, which led both teams tied into halftime.

In the third quarter, following a 69-yard rush, the Bearcats scored a 7-yard touchdown with 12:25 on the clock. With 2:52 left in the third quarter the Texans put up one touchdown, a one yard run by Jabari Anderson, following a 69-yard rush. The Bearcats quickly completed a 76 yards’ drive resulting in a touchdown, with 2:08 remaining in the quarter.

With 2:16 left in the game, a 12 yard pass from Woerner to Bubba Tandy, tied the game 28-28. But after a 68-yard rush, the Bearcats put up a 23-yard field goal with :09 left on the clock. The Texans fell 31-28.

Woerner finished with 257 passing yards and went  24-35 completions and Sadler rushed for 101 yards

Saturday, the Texans will begin Lone Star Conference play vs the Angelo State University Rams. Angelo State is 1-1 in their 2016 season.

Angelo is coming of their 47-41-win vs NCAA Division II Northern Michigan University in which they put up 243 passing yards and 185 rushing yards.

The Texans will return to Memorial Stadium this Saturday against the Rams at 7 p.m.
