TexAnns head to Allen for LSC tournament

Ikpeaku Iwobi scores to help lead against Angelo State.

Today, the Tarleton State University TexAnn Basketball team will tip off against the Texas A&M University – Commerce Lions in the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament. The TexAnns and Lions will play at 6 p.m. in Allen, Texas.

The TexAnns finished fifth in the LSC, they are 12-8 in conference play and 13-13 overall.

During last weeks’ match against the University of Texas – Permian Basin the TexAnns dominated the falcons 67-58.

Following last weeks’ win, the TexAnns fell to the West Texas A&M University Lady Buffs 69-73.

During last weeks’ matchups, two Texanns, Mackenzie Hailey and Tiara Tatum were recognized as LSC Top Performers of the week. Against UTPB, Ikpeaku Iwobi put up an impressive 18 points.

During the last two conference games, Hailey put up 18 points against UTPB and West Texas and had six assists, with 10 rebounds.

Against West Texas, Tatum put up 19 points during both matches, got five defensive rebounds and four steals.

During conference play, the TexAnns fell 64-74 and 74-89 against Commerce. The winner of the first round will take on Texas Woman’s University or WTAMU.

The TexAnns and the Lions will face off this Friday at 6 p.m. in Allen, Texas.

Over the course of the 2016-17 season the top three performers for the TexAnns was Hailey, Bailey Wipff and Iwobi. Hailey had 409 points with a 15.7 avg, Wipff had 363 with a 14.0 avg and Iwobi had 291 points and had an 11.2 avg. For three pointers, Tatum came out on top, shooting 25-64.

Tatum, Hailey, Wipff, Travanti Downes, Trejouir Wilsons, Kylie Collins, Baylee Peck and Iwobi played on all 26 of the TexAnns games this season. Wipff, Tatum, Hailey and Iwobi started for all 26 of the games as well. Wipff had the highest average of time played on her team with 31.4 minutes a game.
