Tailgating is a very popular and fun tradition for many professional, college and even high school sporting events.
Tailgating is mostly popular for Football games and Tarleton State University throws an awesome tailgating event.
Tailgating for the Tarleton Football games usually starts three hours before each game. At the tailgate, Tarleton fans can hangout with other fans and experience a great event before the game.
Tarleton’s biggest tailgate of the 2021 season so far was for the Homecoming Football game. This was the first major tailgate after COVID-19 derailed the start of Tarleton’s Division 1 season. Many Tarleton Football fans were able to come out, get a bite to eat, support Tarleton and watch some Texan Football.
At Texan Alley, where the tailgating takes place, students, parents, organizations and fans can celebrate Texan Football. Texan Tailgate has many fun things to do.
Sororities and fraternities can set up booths, games and events. Businesses will also set up booths to promote their companies and products. Campus organizations such as the Alumni Association, and the Student Government Association, can set up booths,.There is always great food to eat and activities to do like cornhole. There are also many tailgaters who choose to stay the entire weekend in their campers.
I asked many Tarleton fans what their favorite part of tailgating was and the majority of them said something along the lines of getting to support the Football team and connecting with other Tarleton Texans.
“My favorite part of tailgating [is getting to see] the community and school [come] together to support the Texans. Oh, and also all of the food provided by different people [and organizations],” Tarleton Football fan, Noah Williams said.
The food at these tailgating events is like no other. Many people and organizations will provide food and drinks to tailgaters and most of the time it is free of charge.
“Parents Association has the best french fries, and the alumni tent always has great free food and [drinks],” veteran tailgater and parent of a Tarleton student, LeAnn Reed said. “Walking around and seeing the people and kids and decorations [is my favorite party of tailgating].”
Students also are very fond of tailgating. Most Tarleton tailgaters are Tarleton students.
“Meeting different organizations, meeting [and] talking to alumni and hanging with friends [is my favorite part of tailgating],” Tarleton State junior, Rylei Jaramillo said.
Whether it’s fans, parents, alumni or students, everyone, for the most part, loves tailgating. It is an opportunity to allow students, fans and alumni to interact. It is an opportunity to meet new people who all share a love for Texan Football and an opportunity to have a lot of fun.
