Easter bunnies and peeps treats. Scavenger hunts and baskets full of chocolate sweets.
Easter is one of the many holidays directly linked to the changing seasons. For years, Easter has been associated with spring and Christianity. However, it is much more than church services and Easter baskets. Easter is a time to celebrate the coming of spring with your friends and family.
A “traditional” Easter consists of an early morning church service filed with hymns and speeches about the importance of the season. Following that, children are instructed to go outside for the Easter egg hunt in an open field near the church house. All the well-dressed children run out with their baskets and begin collecting eggs full of chocolate and jellybeans. After the hunt, everyone parts ways and prepares for Easter dinner.
If you enjoy celebrating the Easter holiday in a traditional fashion, Timber Ridge has you covered. On Saturday, April 3, 2021, Timber Ridge Church will be hosting the Megga Hunt.
This city-wide Easter egg hunt will be held at the Stephenville City Park from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Participants can expect to take pictures with the Easter bunny, enjoy bounce houses, play fun games and go on a mass hunt for over 500,000 Easter eggs. The hunt for ages birth through two begins at 10:30 a.m. Following this time slot will be the hunt for age three through Pre-K at 10:45 a.m. For kindergarten through grade 3 and special needs, the hunt begins at 11 a.m. At approximately 11:15 a.m., the hunt will begin for grades 4, 5 and 6. This event is free for all ages to attend.
This is a time for celebrating not only the Easter holiday but it is a time to celebrate the reconnection of family and friends since the anniversary of COVID-19.

This year, however, has not been a traditional year. There is an unspoken rule that with age comes more responsibility and less childlike fun. If you are in high school or college, there are still ways to celebrate and enjoy Easter.
Easter egg hunts have no age restrictions. However, to spice up a traditional hunt, you can fill all the eggs with money and see who can collect the most money. You could also host a dorm Halloween inspired Easter candy exchange. Everyone on the hall will place a sign on their door indicating their level of participation in the festivities.
For example, if you want to give candy, you would have a sign that says “Giving”. If you want to receive candy, you would put a sign on your door that reads “Receiving”. If you choose not to participate, you would put a sign on your door that says “Not Participating”. This allows everyone to enjoy a COVID-19 friendly Easter while also allowing everyone to meet their neighbors. If you wanted to have a more intimate gathering, everyone could dress up like a character from their favorite holiday. It would look similar to the scene in “The Santa Clause 3” when all of the holidays are gathered together for a conference.
You could even have an Easter door decorating contest with the other residents on your hall. The possibilities are endless. If none of those options sound intriguing enough, you could wait until the day after Easter and stock up on half price candy!
Although Easter is commonly rooted in religion, that does not mean it cannot be celebrated outside of religion. Easter is not limited to religion or age. The enjoyment of egg hunts and chocolate treats can be enjoyed by the entire family. If you’re looking to celebrate with children, take them to a local egg hunt. Churches like Timber Ridge have taken all of the work out of Easter by providing a hunt.If you’re looking to celebrate with your college roommates and friends, buy some cheap eggs from the Dollar Tree and fill them up with yummy treats and cash. If all else fails, just go home and enjoy the small break. Above all else, stay safe and have a happy Easter Texans!
