When I hear the term smart watch, I automatically think of Apple or Fitbit, but there are others out there to track your fitness like: Samsung, Whoop, Fossil and other Amazon brands.
According to their websites, Apple can range anywhere from $199 to $399, Fitbit can range anywhere from $179.95 to $299.95 and they also offer just fitness trackers ranging from $79.95 to $149.95.
The JTAC ran a poll on Instagram to see which smart watch the student body prefers. Out of 55 students who responded to our Instagram poll, 86% prefer Apple over the opponent, Fitbit.
I, myself, use a Fitbit Versa 2. It is pretty similar to an Apple watch. The only things I can’t do is text from my watch and receive certain notifications.
With every watch comes pros and cons, let’s compare the newest Fitbit to the newest Apple watch, to see how similar and different they are.

The newest Apple watch Series 6 is the main competator of the Fitbit. This Apple watch has a new sensor has green, red and infrared LEDs to shine on to those blood vessels. Apple also offers the ECG, and in just 30 seconds it will show if your heart rate is abnormal, in atrial fibrillation or sinus rhythm meaning your heart is beating in a normal pattern, Apple now also offers a sleep app, so you can establish a new bedtime routine and keep track of how you sleep at night.
The Series 6, is also waterproof; so no matter what you are doing, your watch will be safe from water. It has an always on Retina Display that is now two and half times brighter. The new always-on altimeter, now tracks your elevation indoors and out, in real time. You can listen to music, podcasts and audiobooks, it has the activity rings and activity sharing too. You can also do competitions with your friends and family. This watch also comes with three months of Apple Fitness for free, so you can workout with knowledgeable trainers.
New aluminum cases join the Apple watch line as well. With the Series 6 you can get a watch band that is sleek and custom tailored to your wrist, no clasp or buckle in sight. Both of these smart watches offer similar resources with some key differences.
In the end it all comes down to you and your opinion, I like my Versa 2; but if I had the chance I would exchange it for an Apple Watch.
So, what do you think Texans, Apple or Fitbit?
“I like tracking my fitness everyday. Seeing how active I am when I’m doing my everyday activities like cleaning or walking to Chick-fil-A is reassuring,” Apple user, Ronique Caldwell said.
“I like Fitbit because it has all the same features of a fancy watch for a better price. My favorite features are the step and calorie counting apps. I love having my health at the palm of my hand. I also love that I can track my phone from anywhere,” Fitbit user and JTAC News Content Editor, Kayla Laseter said.
