Texans rev up for upcoming season
Once January comes around, spring sports go into full swing. From practice to games, traveling, and class too, these athletes have a tightly packed schedule.
The tennis team opened their season up on Jan. 16 at College Station in a match against #14 ranked: Texas A&M. The Aggies proved to be a tough match and managed to sweep the Texans 7-0. However, the Texans bounced back quickly and were able to secure a 7-0 win against McNeese State the following day. The Texans have their home opener scheduled for Feb. 11 against Southwestern University.
The baseball and softball teams are looking to have successful seasons this year opening up their seasons in February. The Texan baseball team ended with a record of 20-35 last season. They are set to open their season in a series in San Antonio against the University of Texas at San Antonio on Feb 18. Their home opener is set to take place on Feb. 22 against the University of Incarnate Word. The Texan softball team ended their 2021 season with a record of 17-36. They also open their season on Feb. 11 in a tournament in South Carolina against Bellarmine. The Texans have their first home opener on Feb. 18 in a matchup against Syracuse. Both teams look to improve their programs and build on the new move to Division I for Tarleton Sports.
Tarleton Track and Field began their season on Jan. 14 in a meet in Lubbock, Texas at Texas Tech. A total of nine Texans broke personal and school records. For the women, Freshman Rylee Hennig was among the Texans that broke records. She jumped a 5’7” in the high jump portion of the matchup. This allowed her to place third in the meet and break a record for the indoor track program at Tarleton. For the men, Reid Vincent currently holds the fifth-best school record for indoor track in the 200m. In Lubbock, he managed to find himself with the fourth-best record on the Tarleton indoor track team in the long jump, with a jump of 23’ 5.5.” The Texans do not have any meets at home this season, but they are scheduled to have track meets in Texas a few times throughout the season.
