Former Tarleton quarterback plays for Canadian football league
Former Tarleton Texans Football quarterback, Ben Holmes, is now a quarterback for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Holmes started at Tarleton in 2017 and graduated in 2019. Holmes was a practice squad quarterback in his first year, but became the starting quarterback in 2018.
In his years at Tarleton, Holmes was awarded Tarleton Team MVP and All-Lone Star Conference (LSC) Second Team, and was involved in Tarleron’s first LSC Championship. Holmes holds Tarleton’s second place for touchdown passes in one season, and he also contributed to achieving Tarleton’s record for most yards in one season.
After graduating, Holmes started playing for the Arizona Rattlers in the Indoor Football League, where he played from 2021 to 2022. He also played for the Sea Lions in the Spring League from May to July of 2021.
In February 2022, Holmes was a first-round draft pick, fourth overall, for the New Jersey Generals in the United States Football League (USFL), where he played on the practice squad for a few months before being released in April due to an injury.
On May 3, he signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL, also on the practice squad, but was released on May 30.
On July 17, he signed with the Edmonton Elks of the CFL, where he played his first CFL game until he was released on July 29.
On Aug. 2, he was signed on his current team, the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL, where he plays as the second-string quarterback.
The CFL will start their preseason in May, and the Argonauts will play their first game on May 27. The Argonauts schedule can be found at https://www.argonauts.ca/schedule/#preseason-week-2. CFL games are available to watch on ESPN2, ESPN News, ESPN+, and Hulu + Live TV, where you can watch Argonauts games and support your fellow Texan.
