“Gettin Old”
On March 24, Luke Combs released his latest album “Gettin’ Old” which features 18 tracks, including a cover of “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman. The day before this album dropped, Combs released a mini podcast telling the stories behind the songs on the album.
“This album is about the stage of life I’m in right now, one that I’m sure a lot of us are in, have been through, or will go through,” stated Combs via podcast. “It’s about coming of age, loving where life is now, but at the same time missing how it used to be.”
Luke Combs is a fairly well known country music artist who has been around since 2014. His career really took off in 2016 when he dropped his hit single, “Hurricane” which had 15,000 copies sold within the first week. After this drastic change, Combs’ career took off and he has achieved many amazing accomplishments since, including being inducted to the Grand Ole Opry in June of 2019.
Since “Gettin’ Old” has been out, many fans have fallen in love with the variety of songs that are on it. As he is more well known for his euphoric love songs and heart shattering break up songs, this album includes many more songs about how growing up is tough for everyone and sharing experiences that most, if not all, can relate to.
I definitely have a hard time choosing favorites when it comes to this album because the arrangements are very unique compared to some of the discography from Combs and it is refreshing to hear. If I had to choose a top song, it would have to be “Tattoo on a Sunburn.” This song is a breakup song, which depicts how it feels to want a relationship to work out even if you know in the end, there is no way that it would. He compares the pain to a sunburn on a fresh tattoo, hence the name of the song and let’s just say, if you know, you know.
Luke Combs has exceeded all expectations with this album and no doubt will continue to amaze all of us with future songs. You can stream “Gettin Old” on any music platform available, including Apple Music, Spotify, and Youtube.
