One of Tarleton State University’s most tasty traditions is the Purple Pancakes, otherwise known as the Midnight Breakfast. It is hosted by Tarleton State’s Student Government Association (SGA), as they uphold the tradition of the Purple Pancakes that has been around since 1983. Recently, they added the Freshman Representative Council (FRC) to take charge and have the opportunity to make these pancakes all day for the night event.
The Purple Pancakes tradition takes place late at night during the week of homecoming. The SGA kindly sponsors, cooks, and serves the free mouthwatering midnight breakfast, which consists of eggs, sausage, and of course, purple pancakes.
The Student Government Association is also joined by Dr. James Hurley and the First Lady Kindall, who take the opportunity to help serve meals and interact with students. Along with Dr. Hurley’s administration team that comes to help give out the purple pancakes, and interact with all of the students.
Not only is the Purple Pancake tradition a yummy late night snack, but it is also a great way to socialize and meet new people from across the campus. Throughout the event, students can expect music and dancing along with their purple meal, making it an insta-worthy night.
Although the times and locations have changed since this tradition began, in the most recent years, Purple Pancakes has been held on the Tuesday night of homecoming week. This year, join the SGA, the Hurley’s, and fellow peers on Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 10 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. at the dining hall patio.
This one-of-a-kind event only happens once a year, so you definitely do not want to miss out. Be sure to bring a friend and get ready for an evening of fun and food.
