On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Tarleton Fine Arts Center will be presenting a percussion, woodwind, and brass day. All students from the state are welcome to participate in a day of seminars, lessons, and performances that are led by Tarleton professors.
This day will be led by Dr. Benjamin Charles, an Assistant Professor of Percussion whose responsibilities include instructing students in percussion lessons and methods. He also directs the TSU Percussion Ensemble and The Sound & The Fury Drumline. Dr. Charles has promoted new works for percussion and has been actively involved in procuring new works by commissioning.
Dr. Floyd Richmond, a K–12 music educator who started his profession in 1980, was also able to assist. He created many recordings and is a composer, lyricist, performer, and arranger. He currently serves as the area coordinator for music at Tarleton State University, manages the music business program, and teaches tuba.
This will also include Dmitry Perevertailenko, who is the Associate Professor of Clarinet and has performed throughout the United States and Eastern Europe. He has performed in ClarinetFest 2014 at Baton Rouge, Copland Clarinet Concerto with the Kharkiv Municipal Orchestra (Ukraine), and North Texas Symphony Orchestra. He then won multiple competitions including the International Competition for the 50th Anniversary of Israel (1999) and the North Texas Concerto Competition (2006).
The event begins with registration at 8 a.m. As it is designed to give both areas, high school students and Tarleton students, to collaborate with others on their individual instruments.
