STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s official student-run newspaper, JTAC News, will hit newsstands on a weekly basis come this September. Part of the Division of Student Life, the award-winning publication made its debut in 1919.

“I’m excited to tackle this challenge and better serve our university community with a more frequent publication,” said Hilaree Foreman, JTAC News editor. “This will greatly improve our breadth of coverage and hopefully keep our students, faculty and staff better informed about what’s happening at Tarleton.”

JTAC News, previously called The J-TAC, was last published as a weekly issue in April 2011 when it attempted to become an online-only publication.

“It’s not clear why the decision was made to kill the print issue,” said Caleb Chapman, director of Student Publications. “Once I came on board, we immediately began efforts to bring back the printed edition.”

A year later in April 2012, JTAC News began printing a monthly issue and currently prints on a bi-weekly basis during fall and spring semesters.

“Producing a newspaper provides our students with a myriad of experiences that can be used in any career path,” Chapman said. “We provide a completely student-driven environment that enhances their skills with writing, interpersonal communication, teamwork, meeting deadlines, problem solving, management and a lot more.

“It’s definitely a holistic experience.”

JTAC News will debut its first regular weekly print edition Sept. 1.

“I think this is a great move for JTAC News,” Foreman said. “This new format will make the paper better and more relevant.”
