This Saturday, Nov. 7, City Limits in Stephenville will host an award-winning Texas Country Music Artist, Stoney LaRue. Starting out in Oklahoma and going back and forth between venues there as well as venues in Texas. LaRue’s new album, “Us Time”, was recently released as a compilation of songs written by LaRue and also songs written by artists such as Van Morrison, Gary Stewart, and Glen Campbell.

In 1998, at the age of 21, LaRue was offered his very first music gig. “I had my first gig and I haven’t had a job since. That’s been 18 years now.” LaRue stated that he grew up as sort of a sheltered child and therefore listened to artists like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and George Strait. When he was 18 and started listening to music for himself, he chose to listen to different artists than he was used to, for example, Bob Dillon and Tom Petty.

When asked what inspires him to write his songs and drives him as an atist, LaRue stated that it has changed for him over the years. “When I first started out, it was the desire to travel and write music for a living was what drove me. Different things like nature and sunsets were my inspiration. But over the years, kids came into the picture and they started to become my inspiration and my drive to be a great artist.”

LaRue stated that one of the biggest obstacles that he has had to overcome was his addiction to cigarettes. “Everyone has obstacles,” he said. “Coming out on top of it definitely made me a better person.”

There are always downsides to traveling all the time. LaRue said his least favorite things about being on the road would be, parking near dumpsters, when sound check doesn’t go right, and especially missing him family. On the flip side of that, the best part of the job, according to LaRue, is the fulfillment from being on stage. “The Holy Trinity of Fulfillment I guess you could call it. The emotional, spiritual, and physical fulfillment from being on stage.”

LaRue will be in concert at City Limits on Nov. 7. Tickets will be $15 for members and $18 for minors. The show will start at 9:30 p.m.
