Amanda Miller is now the first woman in Tarleton State University Police Department’s 46-year history to earn the title of Sergeant, making her the highest ranking woman in the department’s history.

Before joining the Tarleton Police Department in 2012 as a patrol officer, Sgt. Miller served on the Stephenville Police force for five years. Before then, she completed law enforcement training at Weatherford College in 2006 before earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in criminal justice at Tarleton. She completed the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement’s basic instructor’s course in 2014.

“I am honored to be promoted to administrative sergeant and I look forward to the new challenges I will face,” said Sgt. Miller. “My primary goal is to assist in maintaining the safety and security of the university and its students. I’m looking forward to seeing the department grow, and I am excited by the possibility of being a part of shaping our department’s future.”

Sgt. Miller is currently an adjunct professor at Tarleton’s School of Criminology, Criminal Justice and Strategic Studies, a recently established program in the College of Liberal & Fine Arts.
