Tarleton State University assistant professor of history has been elected to the Boars of Directors of the International Historians Against Slavery organization. Founded in January 2011 by James Brewser Stewart, the HAS aims to bring historical context to the modern-day antislavery movement in order to inform activism and sustain efforts against the fight against slavery. Landis joins Dr. Matthew Mason of Brigham Young University, Dr. Laura T. Murphey of Loyola University New Orleans, and Founder Dr. James Brewer Stewart of Macalester College, among others, on the board. Landis earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University and received his Ph.D. from The George Washington University, after which he joined the Tarleton faculty in 2013. Landis’s book “Northern Men with Southern Loyalties: The Democratic Party and the Sectional Crisis”, was published in 2014 by Cornell Press.
