On Tuesday night the Tarleton State University theatre department opened its final show of the semester, “Moon Over Buffalo”.

Set in 1953 in Buffalo, New York, the show chronicles two aging stars, George and Charlotte Hay, when they receive a new opportunity to return to the spotlight. When their daughter Rosalind returns home, however, chaos ensues in the House of Usher green room, with dirty secrets coming to light and composures unraveling.

Cary Richards plays George Hay, an actor in his fifties who has played many major male roles in his younger years, but has now decided to move on. Richards starts off a bit rocky in the first act of the show, but once the second act starts he really falls into the groove of the show and portrays George with dignity and lovability.

Mary Meiron, playing former leading lady Charlotte Hay, did a fantastic job playing an aging woman in her fifties who doesn’t want to admit that she is getting older. Meiron never falters in the way that she portrays the aging starlet whose pride prevents her from giving up the limelight.

Courtney Fugler, playing George and Charlotte’s daughter Rosalind, does a phenomenal job in her first leading role in a show, proving she knows her way around a stage as her character fights to hold her belligerent parents together.

Makenzie McClure, playing Paul the Production Manager, delivers an outstanding performance in his first realistic leading role. He brings a comedic air to the show that only McClure can, and provides endless laughs for the audience.

The entire company had a wonderful flow and made for an amazing show. They worked so well together and made for a beautiful ensemble, and a wonderfully funny production that any viewer would enjoy.

All aspects of the show turned out beautifully. The set is so eclectic and yet so cohesive, that you would think that you are actually in the green room of a large theatre company. The costumes were lovely and kept well with the period of the show.

Overall, this show was perfect for a good laugh in the theatre. “Moon Over Buffalo” runs through Saturday, Nov. 15 starting at 7:30 p.m. every night. Tickets can be purchased in the box office in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center starting at 2 p.m. and are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, and $5 with a Tarleton I.D.
