Rodeo teams place first and third at ENMU rodeo

The Eastern New Mexico University rodeo took place in Portales, NM from Sept. 18-20. The men’s team stayed true to their record and took first with 605 points, while the women’s team placed third with 160 points behind ENMU (175 points) and West Texas A&M University (205 points).
Texan Coulter Lane saw success with a first place finish in the all-around for the men. Lane won the bareback riding with a score of 142 and took fourth in steer wrestling with a time of 12.7 seconds.
Also placing in bareback were Dillon Barkshire (120 points), Brody Cress (80 points), and Jacob Lewis (77 points) with third, fifth, and sixth places, respectively.
On the saddle bronc side, Kody Lamb took home the silver with 154 points, while Devan Reilly finished fifth with 80 points.
Three Texan competitors placed in steer wrestling. Samual Williams took it all with a time of 10.0 seconds. Behind Lane’s fourth place finish was Royce Tamcke with 13.1 seconds.
Team roping header Ryan Wright and his Weatherford College heeler won team roping in 16.2 seconds, while Texans Billy Bob Brown and Colton Herrera placed second in 11.4 seconds. Heeler Landon Williams and his Weatherford College header finished third in 25.8 seconds.
Four TexAnn barrel racers managing to add points to the women’s overall score with Emily Efurd (35.43) and McKenna Wagner (35.35) took champion and reserve champion in the event. Kynder Starr (35.56) and Jordan Wright (40.35) put their names on the leader board with a tie for fourth and a tenth place finish, respectively.
Corilynn Teller and Sierra Motley were the only two TexAnns to place in breakaway. Teller placed third with 6.7 seconds, while Motley tied for fifth with 2.9 seconds.
Lanie Culligan was able to win goat tying with a time of 16.3 seconds, while Lauren Bane (17.5 seconds) and Danielle Potter (17.6 seconds) placed third and fourth, respectively.
The men are currently sitting first in the Southwest region with 605 points, while the girls are sitting third with 160 points. The teams’ next rodeo will be at Sul Ross State University on Sept. 25-27 in Alpine, Texas.
