With fall sports underway, the students of Tarleton State University are ready to cheer on their Texans and TexAnns. While football and volleyball draw in large crowds rooting for their favorite teams, the Texan cross-country team has a following all its own as they suit up for a new season.

The Texans are lead by head coach Pat Ponder, who is currently in his ninth season with the Texan track and field team. In the latest 2014 season polls, the Texans are ranked at No. 10 in regional rankings. In the 2013 season the Texans finished sixth in the regional meet while qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Meet for only the second time in Texan history.

With six new freshmen on the 2014 roster, the Texans are confident that it will not make a difference for them to make another National Championship run. The 2014 season has already proved to be heading off to a great start, with the Texans bringing in second place in the season opener on Sept. 6 in Arkadelphia.

The Texans’ next meet is on Sept. 19 in San Antonio for the UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic.
