Spring commencement to include six ceremonies

Tarleton State University anticipates awarding 1,204 degrees during spring commencement exercises at Wisdom Gymnasium on May 9 and 10.

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University anticipates awarding 1,204 degrees during spring commencement exercises at Wisdom Gymnasium on May 9 and 10.

Six ceremonies, one for each of the university’s academic colleges, are scheduled this spring to accommodate the growing number of graduates, with the first set to begin at 3 p.m. on May 9, for bachelor’s degrees from the College of Business Administration.

A second ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Friday will include master’s and doctoral candidates. All master’s candidates will receive their hoods upon crossing the stage at commencement, unlike past years when separate hooding ceremonies were held.

On May 10, the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences will hold its ceremony at 9 a.m., followed by the College of Liberal and Fine Arts at 11:30 a.m., the College of Science and Technology at 2 p.m., and the College of Education at 4:30 p.m.

Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio will preside as 1,020 bachelor’s, 175 master’s and nine doctoral degrees will be awarded.

The presentation of Departmental Outstanding Graduates will precede each college’s processional. The graduates, selected by the administration and faculty in the student’s major department, are chosen for excelling in leadership as well as academics.

This spring’s honorees include: Cameron Hooper of Fort Worth, accounting, finance and economics; Hannah Strachn of Grand Prairie, computer information systems; Melissa Escovedo of Burleson, management, marketing and administrative systems; Shelby Watson of Marion, agricultural and consumer sciences; Ty Drury of Bluff Dale, animal science and veterinary technology; Kayla McDaniel of Round Rock, wildlife, sustainability and ecosystem sciences; Molly Roberson of Stephenville, communication studies; Sarah Davis of Early, English and languages; Sophia Sands of Carrollton, fine arts; Maribel McMillian of Stephenville, social sciences; and Dena Hill of Hewitt, social work.

Also named outstanding graduates this spring are: John Castanuela of Eastland, biological sciences; Tye Thompson of Breckenridge, chemistry, geosciences and physics; Zaniel Bishop of Tolar, engineering and computer science; Sharon Lau of Stephenville, engineering technology; Jeri Serratt of Desdemona, mathematics; Kesslea Johnson of Dublin, nursing; Angela D. Clark of De Leon, curriculum and instruction; April Downing of Amarillo, kinesiology; and Silver Barns of Stephenville, psychology and counseling.
