Buckley is the youngest student to ever be appointed to the position of student regent in the Texas A&M University system.

At this week’s SGA House of Representatives meeting, sophomore political science major Colton Buckley announced that he has been appointed to the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents as the student regent by Governor Rick Perry. This one year term will begin June 1.

“I am so proud to be serving on the Board of Regents as the first student from Tarleton,” Buckley said. “This is an amazing opportunity for our campus and I cannot wait to begin working.”

Buckley is also the youngest student to ever be appointed to this position in the A&M system. Though his vote does not count within the Regent members, Buckley says he is humbled by the opportunity and hopes to give his input on matters such as tuition.

“My platform consists of two major points: I will fight to keep Tarleton’s name as is and keep tuition at the low cost it already is,” Buckley said. “While we are the second oldest school in the TAMU system, I’m a firm believer in keeping Tarleton, Tarleton.”

Buckley hopes to be sworn in by Governor Perry himself on the Stephenville Tarleton campus, depending on scheduling. More information will be provided as the date approaches.
