Review: Larry Joe Taylor Music Fest

LJT crowd waiting for Brandon Rhyder

This past weekend, hundreds of people from all over the state of Texas attended the Larry Joe Taylor Music Fest at Melody Mountain Ranch. Being one of the attendees Friday night and Saturday, I was given an experience that I will not soon forget. In the days leading up to Larry Joe I heard how crazy things might be. Little did I know that people were not exaggerating when they said Larry Joe “brings it”.

On Friday night, I saw Charla Corn, Sam Riggs, and William Clark Green. Only having heard of Green, I was interested to hear Corn and Riggs. Corn was the only female to perform at LJT this year, and I must say, I enjoyed her music. Riggs was also entertaining, and a good new artist to hear.

Green closed the evening on Friday, and he did a wonderful job as always. He even played one of my favorite songs, “She Likes the Beatles”, along with some other great hits.

Saturday was a windy, dusty day out at Melody Mountain Ranch. I was able to see Brandon Rhyder, Jason Boland, Reckless Kelly, and Larry Joe Taylor himself. All the bands played some great music on Saturday. I had only heard a couple of songs from each of those bands, so it was nice to hear more of their music and to be able to enjoy it.

LJT was definitely an experience that will be with me at least until next year. I would say that if you went to LJT expecting to hear some great music, then you definitely were not disappointed.
