The Tarleton State University’s Texans will have less than a week to avenge a three-point loss to A&M-Commerce. The two teams will meet in the semifinal round of the 2014

Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament on Friday. The Texans and Lions are scheduled to tip-off at 8:30 p.m. from Allen Event Center.

The Texans, who are the No. 1 seed in the tournament, downed West Texas A&M 89-70 on Wednesday evening to progress to the semifinal round, while the No. 4-seeded Lions erased a 13-point second half deficit en route to a 74-73 win over Eastern New Mexico.

The Texans trailed by no more than four points very early in the first half against the Buffs, while A&M-Commerce gave up an eight-point first half lead, trailed by eight at the break and then outscored the Greyhounds 29-19 over the final 15 minutes of play before coming away with a one-point advantage.

Tarleton and A&M-Commerce split the season-series, with both home teams attaining wins. The Texans defeated the Lions 84-71 at Wisdom Gym back on Feb. 1, but A&M-Commerce returned the favor with a 79-76 victory last Saturday at TAMUC Fieldhouse in Commerce.

The Texans and Lions will meet for the 60th time in the series with the Lions leading the all-time series 30-29. Tarleton is 3-1 all-time when facing the Lions in the LSC Tournament, but the two squads have not faced each other in the championship since the first-round meeting in Bartlesville, Okla., back in 2010. A&M-Commerce’s only win over the Texans with a  68-67 victory during the second round of the event back in 2005.

Tarleton, who is 24-13 overall in the LSC Tournament, enters Friday’s game with an overall mark of 9-3 when facing opponents in semifinal round action. The Texans haven’t lost in the second round since 2008.
