On Saturday, the No. 2 ranked Tarleton State University Texans took on the Texas A&M Commerce Lions in a final Lone Star Conference showdown. The Texans, who were down at the half, were unable to finish off their season with a win. The Texans fell to the Lions, 79-76.

The Texans, coming off a final home win against Lubbock Christian University, were looking to finish their final regular season game with a win against Texas A&M Commerce to catapult them into the Lone Star Conference Basketball Tournament.

From tipoff, it was shown that it was not going to be an easy game for either team. Back to back scoring from each team made it an unpredictable game. However the Lions were able to take on the Texans slow start and were up by as many as 18 in the first 12 minutes of the first half. The Texans were unable to pick up their pace and at the half, the Texans were down by 11, 37-26.

From the start of the second half, the Texans were ready to get the game back going and put them back in control. The Texans were finally able to take back the lead in the first three minutes of the second half. The Texans were up by one with a minute left in the game, but were unable to keep their lead and fell to the Lions 79-76.

Leading the Texans were Senior Point Guard, Chuck Guy with 18 points and four steals. Senior Guard De’Andre Upchurch also contributed 16 points for the Texans, and Junior Forward Davene Carter rounded out scoring for the Texans with 14 points.

The Texans finish off their 2013-2014 regular season with a record of 24-2 and 12-2 in conference play.

The Texans travel to Allen, Texas for the Lone Star Conference Tournament. They take on the West Texas A&M University Buffs on Wednesday, March 5 at 8:30 p.m.
