The TexAnn softball team had a rough time this past weekend after getting behind in the beginning and not being able to make up the difference, however the TexAnns came back in their final game on Sunday to take the win. Tarleton went 1-3 in the four tournament games in the Tarleton Softball Invitational.

In the first game of the tournament the TexAnns could not overcome the 4-1 deficit to take the home opener.  Tarleton was ahead 1-0 after the third inning, but the Rangers scored in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1.

In the top of the seventh inning, Northwestern State scored three runs on four walks and a double to take a 4-1 lead. Bailey Mauldin responded with an RBI, but the TexAnns couldn’t come up with any more runs.

In the second game on Saturday, Taylor Wells started for the TexAnns and they quickly fell behind after the Lady Bison’s four runs on four hits and an error in the first inning.

Tarleton responded with a lead off homerun by Melody Mayse and also an RBI double from Bailee Mauldin to shrink the deficit to 5-2.

The TexAnns allowed two more runs, and went into the seventh inning down 7-2. The TexAnns added three more runs after starting off the inning with four consecutive base runners, but a strike out ended the game with a final score of 7-5.

In the first game on Sunday, the TexAnns gave four straight walks to start the game and were behind 0-3.  Tarleton tried to come back in the fourth inning after loading the bases, but a foul pop-up and a strikeout ended still down by three.

In the fifth inning Northwestern extendned their lead to 4-0, and then in the sixth inning to 6-0 after a RBI double and single.

Tarleton finally got two runs in the bottom of the sixth after a 2-RBI double, and followed by a Mauldin RBI in the final inning to make the game 7-3 where it would end.

In the final game on Sunday, the Southern Nazarene got a run to start off the game, but the TexAnns came back and had two homeruns in back-to-back innings to win 8-2.

After the initial run by the Crimson Storm, Hennan shut down the line-up in the next three innings to keep the score 0-1.

In the fourth inning, Kendra Mendoza had a line-drive homerun over left center field to tie the game. Then in the fifth inning Emily Jones added another homerun over left center field with two on base to give Tarleton a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Conlee drove in two runners on a RBI double, followed by an RBI groundout by Jones and a wild pitch to drive in the last run of the game.

The TexAnns were scheduled to play Monday, but due to bad weather the final games in the TexAnn Softball Invitational were cancelled.

The TexAnns will travel to Canyon for the West Texas A&M Classic Feb. 14 through 16. The next home game will be Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. against St. Mary’s University.
