The No. 19 Tarleton State University TexAnns took on the Texas A&M Commerce Lions on Saturday Feb. 1 in Wisdom Gym. Despite being down at the half, the TexAnns defeated the Lions, 74-64.

The TexAnns, coming off a home win against the Eastern New Mexico University Zias, were eager to continue their winning streak to make up for their previous two-game losing slump.

The TexAnns set the tempo of the game with two back-to-back layups by Senior Center Shanae Lowrance. The TexAnns led the Lions by as much as eight before they began to slow down the play. The TexAnns began to get comfortable in their play, which allowed the Lions to take their chance and lead the TexAnns by one at the half, 33-32.

The TexAnns pulled out of the second half determined to win, quickly taking the lead against the Lions in the opening minutes of the second half. They continued their plan of attack and lead by as many as 13 in the second half. The Lions could not recover, and the TexAnns took the game, 74-64.

Lowrance had a superb night contributing 15 points, 4 blocks, and 3 steals for the TexAnns in their win against the Lions. Senior Guard Brianna Bledsoe took the place as game leader, playing 36 minutes with 18 points, replacing Senior Center Kiara Wright who normally leads the TexAnns in points and minutes played. Wright was limited to 18 minutes, but still contributed a notable 15 points.

The TexAnns take on the Texas Women’s University Pioneers next on Monday Feb. 3 at The Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas.
