Texan baseball hands out a four game sweep in home opener

Over the weekend, the Tarleton State University Texans faced off in a four game series against the Regis University Rangers. The games, were initially scheduled for one game Friday, two games Saturday, and one game Sunday, but due to potential inclement weather, the games were rescheduled to two games on Saturday at 1p.m. and 3:30 p.m., and Sunday at 11a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

In the opening game of the series, the Texans came out ready to play. Senior First Baseman, Colten Boothe got the Texans rolling in the game by hitting a homerun out to left field in the first inning. From then, it was clear that the Rangers would not be able to keep up. With runs from Junior Evan Robinson, Junior Noel Nevarez, Senior Luke Slentz, Christopher Patton and two runs from Seniors Jared Musgove and Boothe, the Texans easily defeated the Rangers, 9-2.

Part two of Saturday’s double header proved to be a mirror of the first. Senior Rustin Thomas set the game in motion with a run in the first inning along with a homer in the sixth inning. Runs from Senior Garrett Kilgore, Senior Luke Slentz, Junior Kevin Meredith, along with two runs from Junior Evan Robinson, helped the Texans slide past the Rangers, 7-3.

After an overnight rest the Texans came back out and showed they hadn’t tired overnight. Runs from Boothe, Kilgore, Robinson, Meredith, and Senior Rustin Thomas led the Texans in a shutout victory over the Rangers, 5-0.

In the final game of the series, the Texans were looking to get a sweep in the series, and it was done without hesitation. Thomas, Senior Alvaro Moreno, Robinson, and Meredith each scored a run for the Texans, including two runs by Slentz. The Texans easily got past the Rangers, 6-3. The Texans swept the Rangers in the four game series, 4-0.

The Texans face the University of Texas at Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas for a two game series on Feb. 14 at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
