Tarleton makes Indoor Track & Field meet premier in Lubbock

Tarleton headed to Lubbock Friday, Jan. 17 to compete in the schools first NCAA Track & Field meet. Tarleton had 15 top-10 finishes, with six of them in the top-five and two dominating wins in the Mile Run by Dylan Willett and Aly Coughlin.

Willett and Couglin highlighted the day with the only victories for the Texans and TexAnns finishing their races in 4:19.97 and 5:07.68, respectively.

Chase Rathke finished 0.77 seconds behind Willett, finishing in second place. Also in the top five was Gilson Umunnakwe with a fourth place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 49.52 seconds.

In the field events, Kenny Odunaiya, launching the weight 15.47m, placed third in the weight throw, while William Webb lifted up 4.65 m and took home a third-place finish in the pole vault. Brianna Johnson threw the weight 13.14m to take a fifth place finish in the women’s weight throw.

The men’s 4X440m relay team, consisting of Clarencio Guerrero, Blake Eschbach, Cameron Krc and Umunnakwe, finished out the event in fifth place after winning their heat with a time of 3:18.38.

Finishing in the top ten for Tarleton were Lindsey Hinton(Mile Run),

Katelin Huckabee(3000m Run) and Krc(400m Dash), all finishing in sixth place. Hinton finished the mile in 5:14.07, Huckabee finishing in 11:16.19, and Krc finished in 49.72.

Shelby Terry(1.61m) and Tye Doty (4:24.59) each had seventh place finishes in the high jump and mile run, respectively.

Brian Cooper finished the 800m in 2:02.66 taking 10th place, while Guerrero finished in 10th place in the 400m Dash in 50.55.

Tarleton will be returning to the Athletic Training Center at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Feb. 14-15 for the teams final regular season meet of the indoor season.
