The Texans fought hard to defend their streak, but MSU won by a mere two points.

The Tarleton State University Texans had their first loss inside Wisdom Gym since Jan. 9, 2013, ending their 20-game home win streak. On Wednesday, Feb. 4, Tarleton faced Midwestern State University in a rival battle at home. Two halves and an overtime just weren’t working in the Texans’ favor, and they walked away with a final score of 77-75 in favor of MSU.

The Texans were down by 11 points at the end of the first half, but managed to make a slight comeback after the break and tied up the game to send it into overtime.

Ties and lead changes occurred for most of the first quarter, but at the 5:44 mark in the first half, MSU took the final lead change of the half.

After the break, the Texan basketball team came out determined to redeem themselves, and slowly, but surely, tied the game up at 46 with 14:09 left to play.

Tarleton tied the game up three more times before they finally managed to get the lead with a free-throw from Chuck Guy at the 2:18 mark. The Texans were able to get a two point lead until an MSU layup with 37 seconds left sent them into overtime.

MSU took the first lead of overtime, but Tarleton was able to tie the score. Despite their efforts, Tarleton was not able to reclaim the lead and suffered their first season loss.

De’Andre Upchurch led the Texan scoring with 21 points. Davene Carter was close behind with 18, and Chuck Guy finished with 15. Mohammed Lee (7), Jon Cathey-Mackin (4), Damion Clemons (4), Tashawn Mabry (3), Emmanuel Andrews (2), and Coleman Furst (1) finished out the scoring for the Texans.

Tarleton will travel to Cameron University in Lawton, Okla. on Saturday, Feb. 8, to try and start up another winning streak. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
