In a tournament road trip in Canyon, Texas, the TexAnn Softball team played hard and left with a 4-2 record in the classic.

Coming off hard losses and two cancelled games in their hosted TexAnn Softball Invitational, the Tarleton State University TexAnns were looking to impress at the West Texas A&M Classic in Canyon, Texas.

In the first of two matchups for Friday, the TexAnns went up against the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunder Wolves. The TexAnns, who were tied with the Thunder Wolves going into the eighth inning, were able to bounce back. With a late hit into right field by Junior Amber Clifford, Junior Ashley Findorak was able to provide the winning run for the TexAnns, earning a 5-4 win over Colorado State.

The second of Friday’s matchups was the first of two meetings between the TexAnns and the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks. The matchup against the Mavericks proved to be an easy win for the TexAnns. The TexAnns dominated play against the Mavericks and easily rolled over them 7-0.

When the TexAnns returned for play on Saturday morning against the Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners, their moves seemed to be disaligned with each other. The combination of sloppy play from the TexAnns, resulting in four errors, and the Roadrunners taking advantage of the style of play the TexAnns were dishing out, caused the TexAnns to fall to the Roadrunners 7-2.

The TexAnns’ next Saturday matchup was up against the Adams State University Grizzlies. The TexAnns were able to bounce back from their hard loss from the Roadrunners and defeated the Grizzlies easily, 4-1.

In their final day of the three day tournament, the TexAnns were up against the Fort Lewis University Skyhawks. The TexAnns seemed to struggle throughout the entire game, and although the TexAnns had more hits than the Skyhawks, the Skyhawks were able to deliver on their hits and the TexAnns fell 6-4.

To conclude their three day tournament, the TexAnns were back up against the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks and were able to replicate the outcome of their first matchup against the Mavericks. While the Mavericks weren’t going down without a fight, the TexAnns conquered and ended their tournament with a win against Colorado Mesa, 7-6.

The TexAnns’ next matchup is a double header against the St. Mary’s University Rattlers at home in Stephenville on Wednesday Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
