Texans fall on second day in Houston
February 6, 2014
On Feb. 4, the Tarleton State University Texan baseball team took on the Arkansas Tech University Wonder Boys in Houston, Texas. The Texans fell to the Wonder Boys 3-2.
On the second day of the play at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, the Texans were looking to end their road trip with a two game sweep after defeating Winona State University 16-3 the previous day.
The first inning showed to be a hitless and runless inning for the Texans, but hopes were still up for a good game. In the second inning however, the Texans couldn’t hit anything that was coming and Zac Johnson of the Wonder Boys scored at the bottom of the second. Even with Johnson’s score, the Texans kept their defense going, not allowing a hit or run for the next four innings.
However, at the bottom of the sixth inning, the Wonder Boys had two runners on base and were looking to score. Kris Ayers hit a baseline double and the Wonder Boys went up 3-0 on the Texans at the bottom of the sixth.
The Texans, however, were not going down without a fight. During the top of the seventh inning, Junior Outfielder Noel Nevarez hit a single down center field, and thanks to an error by the Wonder Boys, Garrett Kilgore, who was already on base, scored along with Nevarez. The Texans’ effort however, wasn’t enough as the Wonder Boys held them to those two runs and the Texans went down to the Wonder Boys 3-2.
Pitchers Robert Baker, Kyle Gottardy and Colton Burleson each pitched for the Texans in their loss. They combined a total 12 hits, three runs, and three errors.
The Texans take on the Regis University Rangers at home in a four game series; Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
