The No. 3 ranked Tarleton State University Texan Basketball team took on The West Texas A&M University Buffs in a Lone Star Conference showdown. The Texans, coming off a huge televised win against Texas A&M-Kingsville, lead the conference with a record of 21-1, were looking to seal up their spot as leaders and go into the Lone Star Conference tournament strong and confident.

From the beginning, it was shown to be a fight to the finish. The Buffs got the game into motion by hitting a three-pointer. For every shot the Texans made, the Buffs had one to answer for it. At the half, the Texans were down to the Buffs, 39-37.

When the Texans returned from the half, they were ready to win. With a three-pointer from Junior Guard Emmanuel Lewis, the Texans then began to speed up the momentum and were able to take control of the game. With shots coming from the paint and behind the arc for the Texans, they were able to easily defeat West Texas, 81-68.

The Texans had a huge game and multiple game leaders. Junior Forward, Tashawn Marby led the Texans in points with 15. Senior Guard De’Andre Upchurch was a key player in points, having 13. Although Senior Guard, Chuck Guy didn’t round off the Texans in points, he came in with five assists and five steals for the Texans.

The Texans will travel to Porales, New Mexico on Feb. 22 to face the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds at 8 p.m.
