Texans win over Patriots at home

Over the weekend, the Tarleton State University Texan Baseball team hosted the Arlington Baptist College Patriots in a three game series. The Texans won the series 2-1, winning the first two games 5-4 and 7-5, but falling to the Patriots in the final game, 7-10.

The No. 18 Tarleton State University Texan Baseball teams, coming off a loss to the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers, were looking to get another series win against the Arlington Baptist College Patriots. Saturday’s games, which were originally scheduled for 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., were rescheduled to 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

In the first game of the series on Friday, the Texans got off to a slow start, allowing the Patriots to score two runs in the first inning. However, a homerun from junior Jonathan Schmitz allowed him and freshman Dalton Weeks to score and even out the board for the Texans. Both teams scored in the third inning, evening out the score once again. Two runs in the fourth inning from senior Luke Slentz and junior Evan Robinson were able to win seal the win, and the Texans won 5-4.

The Texans returned for the second day of play action ready for a second win. Runs from junior Kevin Meredith, senior Jake Klauck, senior Alvaro Moreno and two runs from junior Noel Nevarez and senior Rustin Thomas were able to hold off the Patriots 7-5.

In the final game of the three game series, the Texans were looking to sweep the Patriots. The game got off to a slow start, with the first run not being scored until the third inning by senior Moreno. At the bottom of the sixth, the Texans, who were down 4-3, were looking to keep the game alive. However, the Texans were unable to stop the Patriots, who scored six runs in the top of the seventh. The Texans, who scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth, were unable to recover and fell to the Patriots 7-10, their first home loss since April 21.

The Texans will host the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds next in a four game series on Friday Feb. 28 at 3 p.m., Saturday Mar. 1 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., and Sunday Mar. 2 at 1 p.m.
