On Saturday evening, the Tarleton State University Texan basketball team took on the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas in a Lone Star Conference matchup, which was televised on Comcast Sports Network Houston. The televised coverage of the game was a first for both the Texans and the Javelinas.

The Texans, coming off a road win against Angelo State University, were looking to continue their winning streak returning to Wisdom Gym for their televised debut.

From tip off, it was clear that the Texans were not going to roll over to the Javelinas. With a three pointer from Senior Guard, De’Andre Upchurch, it was clear that the Texans had a win in mind.

While slow play dominated the opening minutes of the game, once the Texans got into their style of play, there was no stopping them, leading the Javelinas by as many as 13 in the first half. Upchurch couldn’t be stopped, hitting four three pointers. At the half, the Texans led the Javelinas 41-28.

When the Texans came back from halftime, their state of mind hadn’t changed and neither did their play. With a huge dunk from Junior Forward Davene Carter in the opening minutes of the second half, the Texans were out to show their dominance, proudly rollimg over the Javelinas, 94-58.

Upchurch led the Texans with 21 points in their win over Javelinas. Senior Guard Chuck Guy recorded a double-double for the Texans with 18 points and 14 assists.

The Texans take on the West Texas A&M Pioneers at home on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
