Texans defeat ECU for 6-0

The Tarleton State University men’s basketball team bumped their season record up to 6-0 on Saturday, Nov. 30, against the East Central University Tigers with a final score of 75-54.

The Texans streak of 85 points or more per game has ended, but made its winning streak to nine straight games against ECU.

Tarleton started out the game with a 6-0 run, but the Tigers managed to quickly put up four points. Tashawn Mabry guided the Texans to an 11-4 lead, but ECU answered with a 6-0 run to make the score 11-10, Texans.

The Texans refused to lose their lead and went on a 9-0 run to get a 10-point lead with 7:41 left in the first half.

Tarleton managed to keep the lead and went into the break with a 29-19 lead over the Tigers.

ECU came out strong the second half with an 8-2 run to start it off, putting them within four points of the Texans. Tarleton was able to get a 9-2 run of their own to increase their lead to 11.

An 11-6 Tarleton run came next to make the score 51-35, Texans, with 10:24 left in the game.

The Tigers tried to take the lead an were able to get as close as nine points, but a dunk from Davene Carter triggered a 16-5 run and secure the win for the Texans.

Five players scored double figures in Saturday’s game. Carter led the team with 13 points and five rebounds.

Chuck Guy added 10 points and had a career-high nine assists and six steals. De’Andre Upchurch and Mohammed Lee each added 10 points, while Mabry had 12.

Tarleton was able to get 37 rebounds, 11 steals, and force 25 turnovers during the game. The Texans scored 27 points from ECU’s turnovers.

Tarleton’s next game will be Wednesday, Dec. 4, against non-conference team Oklahoma Panhandle State University at 7 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
