No. 19 TexAnns take down Cedarville

The Tarleton State University women’s basketball team hosted Cedarville University on Tuesday, Dec. 17, and walked away with a new season record of 8-1.

Shanae Lowrance started of the TexAnns with a layup assisted by Wright early in the game to start a 6-0 TexAnn run.

Cedarville was able to score five points and trail by only one point, but the TexAnns weren’t about to give up their lead and answered with a 3-pointer from Brianna Bledsoe.

Tarleton continued to increase their lead. A layup by Karli Moore gave the TexAnns an 18-7 lead with 12:20 left in the first half.

Cedarville was able to get back within four points of Tarleton, 20-16, before the TexAnns increased their lead to 10 with 3-pointers by Meagan O’Dell and Kathy Thomas.

The TexAnns were led by sophomore guard Raven McGrath. McGrath was able to score 17 points in 21 minutes of play.

Tarleton went into the half with an 18 point lead over Cedarville, 40-22.

The TexAnns came out of the locker room hot and managed to get their biggest lead of the night, 33 points, with a free throw by Kiara Wright to make the score 58-25 with 15:08 left to play.

Cedarville never managed to get closer than 18 points to the TexAnns.

At the final buzzer, the score board read Tarleton 77, Cedarville 59.

Four more TexAnns had double-digit scoring. Bledsoe scored 16, Wright had 15, Thomas had 10, and Lowrance had a season-high 13 points. Wright was also able to get 10 rebounds for yet another double-double.

O’Dell and Karli Moore each added three points to the total score.

Tarleton was able to shoot 49-percent from the floor and 43-percent from the 3-point line.

The TexAnns next game will be Jan. 2 in Wisdom Gym against Texas College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
