The Tarleton State University football team has accepted an invitation to play in the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl. The Texans ended the season at 7-3 and claimed a share of the LSC Championship with a 5-1 conference record.

This is the first bowl game appearance for Tarleton since 1986 and their fourth appearance overall. The last time the Texans were bowl bound, they were victorious over Benedictine, Kan. 40-38 in the Sunflower Bowl held in Winfield, Kan.

The Tigers of Ouachita Baptist University also ended the season 7-3 and finished third in the Great American Conference. This will be the fourth time that these two teams have faced each other, with the Tigers 2-1 in games against the Texans.

The bowl is sponsored by C.H.A.M.P.S. (Communities Helping Americans Mature Progress and Succeed), a school-based program aimed at educating students about the dangers of abuse of illicit drugs and alcohol, and was founded by Copperas Cove Head Coach and Athletic Director Jack Welch.

The C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl will be held on Dec. 7 in Copperas Cove. Tickets will go on sale Monday, Nov. 25 at the Tarleton ticket office located inside Wisdom Gym. Tickets will be available Nov. 25 and 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., then again the following week on Dec. 2-5 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets will be sold $20 for adults and $10 for students.
