TexAnn basketball suffers first loss of the season

The Tarleton State University women’s basketball team traveled to Tahlequah, Okla. on Tuesday, Nov. 19 to face Northeastern State University. The TexAnns were unable to secure their fourth win of the season. The final score was 62-21, NSU.

Tarleton has yet to win a game at Tahlequah. Their record at Northeastern State is 0-7.

Brianna Bledsoe started the game for the TexAnns with a jumpshot, but the next 13 minutes of the game weren’t as friendly as the first.

The score was 24-13 until Morgan Ashmore managed to make a three-pointer to trigger a 9-4 Tarleton run.

The TexAnns had two turnovers in the final minute of the game, giving NSU five points from their mistakes. NSU was ahead by nine at the half with a score of 31-22.

The second half didn’t prove to be much better than the first. The TexAnns went from losing by nine, to by 16 in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Tarleton managed to get back within 11 points of the RiverHawks, but could not get any closer.

Tarleton was only 32.1 percent on shooting, while NSU was 49 percent.

Kiara Wright had a game high 17 points and eight rebounds. Karli Moore came in next with nine from the bench, and Shanae Lowrance scored eight.

Kathy Thomas (5), Brianna Bledsoe (5), Meagan O’Dell (4), and Morgan Ashmore (3) added to the TexAnns score.

The TexAnns next games will be at the Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere in Denton for the Texas Woman’s Tournament. Their first game will be against Central Oklahoma on Nov. 23 at 12:30 p.m. and game two will be against Regis University on Nov. 24 at 12 p.m.
