TSU football 4-0 after defeating ENMU

Saturday, Oct. 5, the Texan football team traveled to Blackwater Draw, NM to play Eastern New Mexico University and try for their fourth win of the season.
Tarleton State University quarterback, Jake Fenske, passed for a season high of 313 yards and completed three touchdowns.
Tarleton gave up a touchdown within the first six minutes of the game. With the ball back in their hands, Tarleton fought to match ENMU, but quarterback Jake Fenske threw an interception.
With the ball back in ENMU’s hands, they tried for touchdown number two, but came up short when Tarleton defense held them for four downs and got the ball back. Tarleton had the ball for 15 seconds when Fenske completed an 11-yard pass to Jeken Frye for touchdown number one.
Going into the second quarter, the score was tied seven even. Tarleton was on down number four, when Blake Barnes kicked and made a three-point field goal early in the second.
The Texan defense had the Greyhounds on their fourth down and trying for their own three-point field goal when there was a penalty against TSU for roughing the kicker. The penalty resulted in a first down for ENMU.
After a fumble by ENMU is recovered by Texan Brandon Moore, Tarleton gets back possession.
Tarleton is then forced to resort to a 46-yard punt, kicked by Isaac Arellano, to ENMU.
After another ENMU fumble, Tarleton recovers and Fenske completes another pass to Frye for another touchdown.
Another touchdown pass by Fenske to Clifton Rhodes III late in the second quarter, making the score 24-7 at half time.
Third quarter went back and forth until a field goal attempt by Barnes was completed with 4:15 left in the quarter.
The fourth quarter resulted in one last touchdown from each team. Collin Strahan rushed for two yards for the last Texann touchdown of the game.
Final score for the game was 34-14. Since this game, Tarleton has bumped up one spot to No. 21 on the latest AFCA poll.
The Texans will try for 5-0 against West Texas A&M on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at Tarleton Memorial Stadium for family weekend.
