Tarleton golf snags first place in tournament

The Tarleton State University golf team shot a 299, 11-over par, this Monday, putting the team in first place at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate for Women tournament held at Ft. Sill Golf Club in Lawton, Okla.

On Monday, the TexAnns were seven strokes ahead of Midwestern State University, and 11 strokes ahead of Cameron University.

Isabel Jimenez-Perea shot a career-low 69, three under par, on Monday, and headed into Tuesday’s round in first place. She shot five birdies, three-under on par four holes, and one-under on par five.

Beatriz Pardos had a 76, four-over par, on Monday, and was tied for eighth place. Her teammates Sharon Lau and Maraea Durie shot five-over par for a 77 to tie each other for 12th place and Jessica Pickwick shot an eight-over par with an 80 and tied, as well, for 27th.

On Tuesday the TexAnns shot an 8-over par (296) to steal its first team title of the 2013-14 season. This is the TexAnns sixth straight win at the Oklahoma Tournament.

Isabel Jimenez-Perea took her first individual title for the season and shot a final-round score of 2-over par with a 74 and finished 1-under (143), Perea carries a 72.33 average into next week.

Beatriz Pardos finished the tournament with a 150, 6-over par, and came in 8th place, with Maraea Durie in 10th shooting a 152, 8-over par.

Jessica Pickwick rose on Tuesday by shooting a season-low 73, 1-over par, to tie for 14th. Sharon Lau finished in a tie as well for 23rd place with a score of 156, 12-over par.

Tarleton has now won 10 team titles in the past three seasons and 17 over the previous four years. The TexAnns will finish the 2013 fall season next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 28-29, at the Rock Barn Collegiate Invitational at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, NC.
