Texan football brings home third win in a row

If you were willing to pay the $10 entry fee to see the Tarleton State University Texans take on the Abilene Christian University Wildcats, you got your money’s worth.

The double overtime extravaganza began with a 14-0 Texan lead in the first quarter off of a Bubba Tandy 26 yard reception from Jake Fenske, and a 50 yard interception return for a touchdown by Desmond Jackson.

ACU came back with 10 straight points before Tarleton took a 21-10 lead going into halftime off of a Jerome Regal six-yard touchdown run.

The teams exchanged touchdowns in the third including a 5 yard pass from Jake Fenske to Jenken Frye. With a fourth quarter score of 28-17 in favor of the Texans, ACU ripped off back-to-back scores giving them a 28-31 edge.

With four seconds left, Blake Barnes lined up the 29 yard field goal, and drilled it sending the game to overtime tied at 31 apiece.

After exchanging field goals in the first overtime, TSU scored a touchdown in the second off Jerome Regals legs from 10 yards out. Tarleton won 41-34.

Notable stats from the game include Jake Fenske throwing for 159 yards and two touchdowns, Jerome Regal rushed for a whopping 253 yards and a couple scores. Le’Nard Meyers led all recievers with 82 yards, but the receiving scores came off of Jake Fenske and Bubba Tandy. Defensive standouts were Jake Blount, Marquis Wadley, and Charles Moore led all tacklers with eight apiece, Desmond Jackson had the lone turnover for the defense, and Jake Blount and Patrick Bettiol each recorded a sack.

The Texans hit the road for the last of the 4 game road trip to face Eastern New Mexico in Portales, New Mexico. The Texans are currently 3-0 and tied for the division lead with 4-0 West Texas A&M. TSU was also bumped up to no. 22 in the D2 rankings today.
